Law enforcement took more stuff from people than burglars did last year - The Washington Post

'One other point: Those asset forfeiture deposit amounts are not necessarily the best indicator of a rise in the use of forfeiture. ', "Here's an interesting factoid about contemporary policing: In 2014, for the first time ever, law enforcement officers took more property from American citizens than burglars did."

'Last year, according to the Institute for Justice, the Treasury and Justice departments deposited more than $5 billion into their respective asset forfeiture funds. '

'Officers can take cash and property from people without convicting or even charging them with a crime — yes, really! — through the highly controversial practice known as civil asset forfeiture. '

'Reliable data for all 50 states is unavailable, but the Institute of Justice found that the total asset forfeiture haul for 14 states topped $250 million in 2013. '

Not to mention things like frivolous regulations prevent people from having stuff. Minimum wage mandates mean that most would be burglars cant find any legal employment.

Trumps tax plan will help. Up to 25k pays $0.00 in federal tax.

Sure but the congress has to pass that. My point is more if you want to start your own oil company or internet provider and the big players will have the government shut you down before you make one dollar.

Those are 2014 FBI crime statistics from an article in 2015. I wonder how much worse this has gotten now?

Asset forfeiture is the way the police state gets around legislative control. Money goes directly to the police departments that produce it with out any legislative over site. It is your basic taxation with out representation. Police departments already have sexual predators who prey on anyone they stop. As far as a few bad apples line goes; if they were all as good as they claim to be they would be turning in the bad apples instead of giving them a few paid days off to think about how to get away with what they did.

Every cop who has been a part of this should be dead.

Bad idea. A really bad idea. Why not get rid of asset forfeiture instead? Because that is the root of the problem.

Which is why the media is distracting both sides of the political spectrum with identity politics. If we decided to tackle the issue of criminal justice reform head on we might actually fix it.
