53 did seem incredibly young

That question comes to mind: "how many old fat people does one see?"

My thoughts exactly, and, excuse me for saying this - however, when you're a celebrity, there's even less of an excuse to be fat/overweight/obese/super morbidly obese/etc... You have a wealth of resources, money, information, the best <insert here> at your disposal, not to mention it's pretty much your job to look good.
I just don't understand it honestly...

Celebrities also have more incentive to stay in shape, because they're subjected to world wide ridicule if they get fat. Or at least they used to be, before HAES and fat acceptance came into being.

Thank you. After some fat (minor) celebrity sympathy in response to my last post, I figure I'll be crucified for this one. :-)

Don't pay any attention to it. This sub is riddled with sympathisers for socialised healthcare that enables millions of fat degenerates.

Lalalala I'm going to keep pretending he was 80's George Michael lalalalalala
[–] DopeandDiamonds 0 points 7 points 7 points (+7|-0) ago
Not Even the 80's version. I saw one of those picture timeline articles and he looked hot straight through 2012. I think the 2012 picture was from the London Olympics and he looked and healthy, at least in that pic. He looked older but not old, that make sense? I can't link on mobile but I think it was a BBC article. Looks like he went down hill hard and fast. I know his health before the weight gain was not great and you think it would be a reason to stay trim. I wonder if the weight changed his voice.

No wonder I haven't heard anything about him until now. Also explains why all the pictures I've been seeing are very outdated looking.

Isn't that crazy? I didn't have the slightest clue that he was fat. I guess I just didn't think he could even get, he's George Michael, you know.
Crazy. Being fit and trim was a big deal in the 80s--well, it always has been, but especially in the 80s it seemed like men were trying hard to look good, too. I immediately think of Freddie Mercury. I wonder, would he have gotten fat?
Bowie never got fat. I don't believe Freddie would have. Same with Prince.

I've seen sources saying heart failure rather than heart attack, if this picture is an outlier it could be due to fluid rather than true weight gain.
[–] SeethingHatred 1 point 14 points 15 points (+15|-1) ago (edited ago)
Well he did have a heart attack... the evidence seems to check out.
[–] Mongychops 0 points 17 points 17 points (+17|-0) ago
He survived homosexuality during the worst of the AIDS epidemic in the 80s and 90s, reckless substance abuse for most of his adult life, a car crash from driving under the influence, and life threatening pneumonia in 2011, only to die from a heart attack when he got fat.

And a smoker. Smoking is associated with cancer, but that's not at all what causes most smoking deaths. It's heart disease and stroke by a good margin.

I had no idea he had gotten fat. Holy shit. This is the first picture I've seen of him at that size
