But you need an ID for literally everything else, including cashing a check. I have used the same credit union for 22 years, they know me by name and I still have to present my ID when cashing a check. It's ridiculous to even make this excuse. Blame game. and Salon is a leftist rag

As an American, it is inconceivable that she is blaming this for losing the election. What a fucking Maroon.

The problem is the 24th amendment. It's not a bad amendment, but the issue is the following:

the 24th amendment makes it unconstitutional to instate a poll tax or any similar payment. The issue with voter ID is that IDs have a price and are not given for free (a non-drivers ID in New York costs $9-10 which lasts 4-5 years, or $13-14 for an 8-9 year ID). Since the required identification is not free, it could fall under the classification of a poll tax and be deemed unconstitutional.

The simple solution would be to provide voter identification for free, then impose voter ID laws afterward, so that they would become constitutional. Any argument that people can afford $9-10 will be met by the fact that the original poll tax that this amendment made unconstituional was only $1. Add to the fact that, in NY, most voters only vote about once every 4 years (for the presidency) which happens to be the time in which that ID expires, so you'd have basically $9-10 poll tax.

Hope this helps explain things.

As an American, I can't either but the Democrat Party here wants all the Illegal aliens who sneaked across our border to vote because most will vote for Democrats.

Voter ID laws contributed to Hillary Clinton’s loss in crucial swing states - Salon.com

'Nevertheless, McDonald said he believes that the legal battle over Voter ID laws is “likely not over,” adding that he “would not be surprised to see this go to the Supreme Court.” Voter ID laws are widely viewed as racist due to their tendency to disproportionately impact racial minorities and the poor. '

'One city that has attracted special scrutiny is Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times on Saturday. '

'In July, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down a Voter ID law in North Carolina (which Trump also won) on the grounds that “the new provisions target African-Americans with almost surgical precision.” Voter ID laws seem to have been part of a larger drive by Republicans to negatively impact voter turnout among minority communities. '

'As Salon reported on Wednesday, the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights issued a report finding that 43 percent of counties which had previously been covered by the Voting Rights Act had reduced their number of voting locations. '

'Overall, there were 868 fewer sites to vote in 2016 as a result, the vast majority of them in nonwhite and low-income areas. '
