Getting a game listed on Steam used to be a crown jewel achievement. Now, sifting through the Steam store is like wading through a sea of garbage.

On the flipside, finding an undiscovered great game on Steam is now a crown jewel achievement.

Read the article, but really can't agree with it. Of course you can argue that Steam having ever-more titles on it is simply a result of it getting older, but I'm fairly certain that they also decreased the quality standards quite a bit, with shovelware and games that you previously would have fund for free on flash sites making it virtually impossible to find good non-AAA titles. The new Greenlight system doesn't help, and when the author argues that a game that doesn't get released on Steam is dead, I'd reply that it doesn't matter whether it's released there or not, because no-one can find the damned thing.

Steam has over 10k games on it. at least 8k of those are rehashes of other games, rip offs, or clones. The platform is literally so saturated that the most original thing on steam is the Commandos style game set in feudal Japan that's coming out. There are way too many games on Steam.

The bigger issue is that it's hard to search for games you like, even with tags.
