This guy disagrees. He is essentially the caricature of everything the society ascribes to men, being male and manliness. Outdoors, hunting, the male dress-code, whiskey, meat, simplicity in life, being handy, etc... For a caricature to exist and for people to find it humorous it must first have some basis and background in that culture, which it does.

I disagree, your point doesn't seem to make a difference to whether or not male gender identity actually exists. To break it down think of it like this:

  1. Male as in men,
  2. Gender is masculinity or femininity, essentially characteristics associated with men and women.
  3. Identity is who we are, this is sometimes affected more by what we think we are sometimes more than what we are.

In other words in order for the male gender identity to exist, we only need to think it does and most people do therefore it exists.

I disagree. We are free to make our own identity. I can figure out my own wardrobe. I can, with hard work, get where I want to go. I might have to work harder since there isn't much support out there for men. No scholarships, no quotas, no promotions because of my gender.

I love being a man. I'm free to accomplish whatever I set my mind to. What you're describing, the lack of distinctive male areas, is more a result of feminism and this obsession with getting rid of "boy's clubs". Of course there aren't many areas for men only...women are trying to fucking ruin them all, and screaming "misogyny!" when they aren't allowed.

You know what's part of my identity? Cars. Video games. The furniture I built for my apartment. The maintenance I do on my own vehicle. The aquarium which I built, stocked, and now maintain myself. I don't need society's approval to do those things. I just wanted to do them, so I did. And that is what it's all about.

Yes but none of that is tied to the fact that you have a penis.

Who cares? I've got a penis, it's my cock, and I do whatever the fuck I want with my life. that's the point, isn't it?

As far as I can see, the only point you tried to make that had any thought in it is that there are no male-only hobbies or interests. The rest is some convoluted rant against religion. Are there any female-only hobbies? No. So therefore the female gender identity is not real by your argument.

ballet

The rest is some convoluted rant against religion.

I was drawing a parallel to the way society views atheism as a "religion". To the way society views the male identity is a "gender"

There is no distinictive male wardrobe

You obviously have no understanding of male apparel. First the suit is specifically designed to balance the male proportions. Properly fitted a male will seem to have broad shoulders and a slim waist. A suit is pretty much a cheat code for male secondary sexual characteristics.

Also men use color in a way extremely different than women. Males compliment colors and women match colors. You won't see a male color blocking unless his wife dressed him but you will see discordant splashes of color a woman would never attempt.

Just because you don't know how to dress a male doesn't mean others don't.

I'm forwarding this to my mom in regards to an argument from 17 years ago that a gray tshirt works with khaki pants.

cross posting my response from your identical topic on /v/askvoat:

Highly disagree. We can use fashion as an easy external example - sure there are some clothes that are relatively gender neutral, but once you get past that you'll notice numerous aspects that make male clothes the antithesis of female clothes. Aesthetically things that are baggier, more utilitarian, or plain are seen as male traits. If it was interpreted as an expression you could say the clothes were strong, stoic, and powerful.

It isn't just the lack of femininity that makes something male - it's the antithesis of femininity.
