Pretty much this. For me it's not only that clean energy is "nicer" than fossil resources, but also the fact that the former is available in more or less infinite quantities, whereas the latter are finite by nature and become increasingly expensive with shrinking quantities.
At the same time, it should be kept in mind that "clean" energy sources can also be quite dangerous to the environment in their construction or maintenance, even if the "overall score" may be better than with fossil resources.

There are too many factors involved, such as the solar cycles, that come into play. I believe we need to do what we can to reduce atmospheric carbon, but use good judgement on restrictions.
