before christ there was no direct 'communication' to god by the people because of their sin. Only the holy priests being able to come before him. You would go to the pope with a sacrifice(as a foreshadowing of the sacrifice of christ) and the pope would sacrifice it and be the mediator between god and the sinful person. the christ died once and for all to forgive all sin(conditionally) so that now everyone can stand before god (if conditions are met) and ask for forgiveness directly. Your sin is forgiven so there is no barrier that stands between you and god. No pope needed.
The temple where the priests used to worship had two rooms inside it. The holy side, and the most holy side. There was a large, heavy curtain that separated the two. When jesus died on the cross the curtain tore in two.

Well I feel like you are saying that the role of the priest is not longer necessary, not just the pope right? I mean the pope is just the bishop of rome, and a bishop is just the priest in charge of a certain region.

I don't know of the hierarchy. But yure right about priests, as long as they insist their role as middleman.
