Remember when Sony USE to spend their resources and energy to actually develop state of the art good stuff??? Now they are only about as good as the Chinese.
A lot of companies just use chinese OEM's to make their devices, with varying degrees of involvement. I'm not sure whether or not Sony did this, but I know that Samsung does this for their surveillance cameras, that are basically re-labeled chinese lowest cost stuff from http://www.hikvision.com

I feel the need to point out that when it comes to products whose sole existence is to ensure a continuing revenue stream for the company that built them (like a PS4), you never read about shit like this being "accidentally" left in" by said company.
But when it comes to a consumer product, they're subject to an entire different league (lack) of security.

More remarkably, these were not cheap consumer-grade IOT webcams - these were industrial grade cameras sold to government and business, not to home owners and casual users.
