It wasn't that long ago (the 90's, essentially, and really up until the mid 2000's) that conventional wisdom was to have precisely these sorts of people in government leadership roles.
I mean, if someone's a COO at at giant financial corporation, then they must know what they're doing! Who is better qualified?
In reality, this thinking may be shallow, but it does have merit. If the heads of the Treasury in the US are not to be someone with a pedigree in finance at a global scale, then who do you pick?

I don't trust Trump one bit, although I truly hope for the best.
Having said that, he has one enormous positive compared to any Pres Elect in modern times: Trump is not beholden to a vast number of political interests.
