The US doesn't use imperial. The gallon is hard proof of that.

It is called imperial in Autocad but it is not british imperial because british imperial is different from american imperial.

Lengths are the same between the two systems. Volume is one thing they violently disagree on, as well as most any weight above the pound.

We use "customary" weights and measures, as there is no one source from which they all derive prior to being formalized.
I think I've heard it called SAE as well, but the key point is that they're different.
