To give a serious answer he's a very intelligent man with experience in politics and management. Urban Development isn't really about city planning as much as working with banks making all the little parts of HUD work together. Obama's push to break up the ghettos by the use of HUD grants (which, by the way, I couldn't support more strongly) is a keystone to his plan to lowering crime and fixing the nigger problem. While I doubt Trump will follow the same strategy someone who has fought in the trenches in the battle between local and federal regulation should be qualified to take on Carson's new position.

And by "nigger problem", for you pearl clutchers, I mean the inner city culture that sees hard work and self improvement as selling out.

It's been fucked up since the new deal. Ie, when the feds started getting involved in urban planning.

True. Besides the administration there of is highly dependent upon execution of existing law. Not like Carson has to reinvent anything to make it not work any more than it does now

I'm not saying he should only promote bureaucrats and professional polticians, I'm saying he should promote someone with at least some knowledge of the job. Carson might be a decent pick for health (because it's actually his field) but for urban planning I'd be thinking civil engineers, economists, developers etc.

Urban planning is not something you learn by playing Sim City or Cities Skyline. It requires an higher education.

Have you played Cities Skylines with mods? That shit is whack.

There's no "pavement ape" mod though.

Sim City

I wish fluency in Sim City was a requirement to anyone running for city council or any position which would involve making decision about urban planning. It would be a huge improvement over the current situation.

Says who? The same people that pushed the "knowledge based economy"? how did that work out?

The ivy league and the university system pushed "everyone needs higher education!!" because they made fuck loads of money off of it. Never mind that until recently, only 1% of the population ever went to college. the reason why we have such a low graduation rate, is because only a handful of people should go to school.

Frankly, Washington should not be planning and designing cities. That IS the job of the cities. What resources do they have? what do they need? who wants to work with them? These are city questions, not federal ones.

You're referring to Carson's contention that the pyramids built to be grain silos? Right, he'll be great for HUD/s.
