Some gems about the movie:

  • The next closest contenders for lowest-grossing film were 2012 vampire rock musical I Kissed a Vampire ($1,380) and 2013 animated adventure Last Flight of the Champion ($1,493).

  • Cannes president Thierry Fremaux revealed the movie was only screened at the film festival in May under pressure from (main actor Gerard) Depardieu.

  • Tim Roth, who played the role of Sepp Blatter, told reporters he only did the movie to dig himself out of debt, and acknowledged that his role will have his father "turning in his grave"

Last but not least...

- Fifa wanted to call the movie "Men of Legend" or "The Dream Makers". LOL

So...they could have given me $29mil, and I could have given them back $1000, and it would be considered more profitable??

This just confirms what everyone knows already. We Americans just don't care about soccer (or football for you non 'Murican types).

That and everyone hates FIFA

I guess the other big problem is that the foundation of FIFA sounds like an incredibly boring subject for a movie.

Here's what I assume the story is. There's a bunch of boring European dudes with suits and bad hair. They run various soccer leagues. They have a meeting. Someone suggests that they should have more meetings. They agree. In a series of further meetings, a framework for a future organisation which will continue to meet regularly is established. The movie culiminates in a bunch of dudes having a meeting.

Woo fricking hoo.

Don't worry, I'm sure it'll do well with VHS sales.

I really don't understand this situation. An entity as large and powerful (and corrupt) as FIFA should have no problem boosting those ticket sales to at least the six-digit range just to save face. I mean it would still be a major commercial failure but why are they allowing the sub-$1,000 sales to go public?

FIFA was probably too busy (and under too much scrutiny) with the corruption issue to pay people off to go watch it!
