Perceived potential for profit. Huge worth has been placed on the size of the user base for an app or website but I think it is highly over inflated. Look at Draw Something, the app was purchased for $200 million and then very quickly started shedding users.

I agree that it is over inflated for exactly that reason. Especially when you think about the fact that most of the ways to monetize something like that piss users off and drive them away. People are fickle and will stop using any app or website for no reason, even if the user experience hasn't really changed at all. At least in my experience.
In addition to sops' analysis, which is the most straightforward explanation, there are some who say that we are approaching a second, albeit less drastic, tech bubble
