I'll tell you what I don't like about them, the amendments were to prevent government overreach but somehow we've been duped into believing that those rights are granted to us from the government when they inherent to begin with. Why is it that a felon cannot own a firearm after paying back their "debit to society" ? (never mind that a person has the inherent right to own and posses anything he so desires so long as he doesnt infringe on the rights of others?)

lol just the comment section here on voat. maybe I'll hit up /u/smokratez and ask to co-host the podcast he's started. I don't see why we couldn't start doing our own investigative journalism deal here on voat. granted we'd prolly get trolled to hell, just a thought really

Felons cannot own firearms because they have been deprived of that liberty through due process and it is not a cruel or unusual punishment. The Fifth Amendment prohibits the government from depriving a person of life, liberty, or property without due process. The Eighth Amendment prohibits cruel and unusual punishment. Neither restricts punishment for crimes to time in jail or prison or says anything about "paying a debt to society."

Then our Justice department is based upon punishment and not justice, to call it anything else is facetious.

The 5th Amendment allows the government to take away freedoms. Even if you as a private citizen "repay your private debts" after years of delinquency your credit will still be fucked.

1, 2 and 3 the "Safeguards of Liberty" are by far my favorite, but I also like that in the 13th amendment it specifically states that we can still use slavery as a punishment for crime. Why do I like that part of the 13th amendment? Because when people bitch about prisoners being "slaves" I tell them we should just get rid of the 13th amendment because it's what gives us the right to do that. Then they agree because they never actually looked at the constitution before, then the lights fade and I turn my back on them while rubbing my hands together maniacally.

It more than the rest really drives home the point of the constitution. The Bill of Rights points out specific things that cannot be infringed. The 10th points out that there are a lot of other rights that aren't specifically listed but are protected right as well.
It's the least specific, but should carry the most weight IMO. Sadly, I don't think today's society recognizes it very well.

I like the one that killed slavery. Cause as much as I dislike bullshit civil movements, that one wasnt bullshit. Slavery was a blight and Im glad its gone.

There wasn't an amendment to end slavery. It was Lincoln's proclamation that did it.

The second protects the first, and all the others.
