What can the average person do to protect themselves on the net? I already use DuckDuckGo and vpn. But I also use Chrome browser. I really need some of the extensions it offers. Sometimes I use Tor if I'm feeling paranoid. I don't do anything illegal on the net, but I always feel like someone is watching. It really fucks with me. Any tips are appreciated. :)

I hate to say, but it feels like a loosing battle. Nevertheless....
I would avoid chrome cause it is google and google is in the business of tracking. Same with Microsoft (go linux) I would use firefox, or some derivative of it, or maybe something like brave browser.
Extensions and information provided by eff.org is a really good place to start. (Privacy Badger, HTTPS) . Seriously, EFF Is one of the few well organized fighters for internet freedom.
use protonmail, tutanota, or host your own e-mail, encourage others to do so.
setup and use use an alternate e-mail address (some services provide aliases) to sign up for random shit on the internet.

Oh and if you haven't already, remove everything facebook from your life.,.. (and your electronics)

EDIT: I forgot, SIGNAL PRIVATE MESSENGER.... or some other encrypted peer to peer open source SMS messenger alternative.

Thanks. For private messaging, I've been using Pidgin. The problem is getting others to use it... I'll look into signal.

find alternatives to google, gmail, and youtube. run multiple accounts under multiple emails. utilize VPN so that web searches are not linked to your IP. if possible write a program that does random searches or random clicks to add white noise to data tracking algorithms.

It's very concerning how they(Google) can perhaps legally flip some censor switches if and when they please. This reliance on them is very dangerous. On that note, I don't know what's up with their Youtube "trending" section, but half the videos in there are leftist propaganda shows, like John Oliver, Sahara Bees(something like that), Bill Maher, Seth Meyers, and Stephen Colbert.

I propose public organizations//community to monitor corporations for their political and ideological affiliations and beliefs so that it can be easily searched and related to the general public. Particularly the C-Suite executives. The average person should easily be able to determine if they want to do business based on his/her values. Why should I be unknowingly fooled into doing business with an organization that works against my interests?
