Let this be a life lesson to him, so that he...

Nah. Won't happen. May he perish in a grease fire!

Would have been better for the planet to have just left him...

Maybe I'm not human, but I'd jog to the nearest police station, give them a brief description of where he was, then I'd leave.

He easily could have survived on his fat deposits for 2-3 days

As bad as our rhetoric is here, I doubt any of us would willfilly let someone die in the immediate moment.

Its a broken ankle, can you not just crawl back to the trail that does have cellphone service? I go into weird places all the time by myself and i luckily i guess havent broken limbs but fallen and hurt myself, landin on my ankle or wrist wrong, but since youre alone you just gotta get back up and push through it. I mean yeah what are you gonna do, sit there forever?

What I don't understand is this: if you have enough mobility to go on a hike, how the fuck could you allow yourself to be flown out on a helicopter? It's so fucking humiliating.

Give me some crutches and some pain killers, and help me hobble back out the trail to the ambulance.

Being fat is bad.

Being a whiny pussy is even worse.

It could have died after hopping a stream? That's evolution in action. In any other period in history it would just die due to some small mishap like this, leaving the world no poorer.

Also it's pretty stupid for an inexperienced hiker to go out alone into an area with no cell service. I don't even think I would, just in case of an accident of some kind.

I worried about that too for a while, but I actually purchased a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) about a year ago. It was around $200 on Amazon and you can send out an emergency alert from literally anywhere on earth (excluding the north / south pole). I used it when I hiked the Pacific Crest trail on the west coast.
