Terasology. If Minecraft is windows (how appropriate now that microsoft owns it), Terasology is linux. Sure it lacks some content, but some stuff really is worth giving up for. Like infinite hight and depth. Modding thats offical, and just works. I join the dev testing days, and it works. All the modules automatically downloaded and configured, just for that server.
I could go on, and yes I help develope the game, so lemmy just leave an info graphic I made (and sadly have never gotten anywhere to 'offically' use it)

I can't think of a single FOSS game I play with multiplayer. The closest would probably be DCSS Webtiles, and player ghosts, while cool, aren't at all close to actual multiplayer.
