Congress knew for at least two years about Pentagon efforts to take back bonuses from veterans - LA Times
'Audits completed last month concluded that 9,700 California Guard members were not entitled to the payments or that there had been errors in their paperwork. '
'Soldiers can appeal to the National Guard Bureau, the Pentagon agency that oversees state Guard organizations, and to an Army Board for Correction of Military Records. '
'The Times reported Saturday that the Pentagon has been demanding repayment of enlistment bonuses — which often reached $15,000 or more — from thousands of California Guard soldiers, many of whom had served multiple combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. '
'Mueller said the California Guard had previously “recommended that Congress speed up this Army process” and had sent draft legislation to do so to each California congressional office in 2014. '
'It is unacceptable to now subject them and their families to undue financial burdens thanks to mismanagement from the California National Guard and rigid bureaucracy on the part of the Pentagon," Clinton said. '

The Los Angeles Times is corrupt and should be archived in the OP. It doesn't deserve our support. Please keep this in mind for future posts.

Look, I care about veterans, I will pass a bill to absolve them of their debts for the bonuses they received for contracts they already fulfilled. See how much I care about the vets?
Edit: 10 years ago was the height of Iraq and Afghanistan when they couldn't get enough warm bodies in uniform and had to offer bonuses because guys were doing back, to back, to back deployments. I personally know guys that have spent more than 6 years in combat zones from that era.
