The main thing is to take him with you when YOU do things. Projects are great, but I learned the most from Dad when I watched him and helped him work. Warning, though. Patience is really necessary if you do this, since little guys want to do many things with you, and you just have to let them and be patient. I think youngsters ought to have exposure to all the trades. My Dad was an electrician, but he was a bit too impatient when young to teach me much. Electrics. (How electricity works). Wood--fixing, building. Metal (sheetmetal, welding) Plumbing (if you can stand it). Landscaping / gardening; bicycles, then cars. Your son will love you for this, for including him. Boys view work as play, and they are sooo proud when you work with them. There are so many teachable moments you can't count them. I agree with all the others, btw, but just wanted to add my $.02. You'll pick the right things. Each youngster has "likes." and Blessings on you for doing this.

Magic:The Gathering. I cant possibly recommend learning/teaching this more. It is an excellent hobby and teaches one to think in new perspectives and directions. Grab a couple intro decks from the store ($15-20/deck) and read up on the rules. Once you feel established, use TCGPlayer to buy individual cards, and research on Gatherer
Games can last 2minutes to 2 hours, and there are about 9000 cards available to pick and choose from. Truly a fantastic game for two people to learn together.
