What is your idea of dapper
[–] lord_nougat 0 points 5 points 5 points (+5|-0) ago
Lingerie and a heavy machine gun.
[–] Thisismyvoatusername 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
How does one wear a heavy machine gun. The fucking things take a crew to move around and operate. Wouldn't you prefer a light machine gun? Frankly, what I really want is an M249 like this one, but they are kind of pricey.

When my oldest daughter was a senior in high school she interned for a member of Congress. As a result, she had to buy and wear professional, office appropriate clothing unlike what she had worn to that point. I remember her being shocked at how much better she was treated by adults (especially cops).
Some things are best experienced. If I had commented on how she was dressed before then she would rebel. Seeing what a difference it actually made let her know that while old, I wasn't completely stupid. Sure, wear what you want. But make it appropriate for the setting and don't complain when treatment changes on what you are wearng.
People need to make a lot of snap judgments in life. They will do so based on quick, often first, impressions.

Really what you're saying is "it's okay to make snap judgements based on clothing because people make snap judgements based on clothing"

No.
I can, and I still don't want to.

Pinch it off hard and start a new can.

No, because just too dam hot still. But I do dress fashionably and would prefer to up my game if I had the cash.
Priorities? You don't have to spend a shit load to look good. Looking good does change the how people look at you.

I always preferred early 60s James Bond type dapper.

You can dress very well on a budget. People just assume dressing presentably = expensive because the only time they dress better than jeans and a tshirt is for prom, weddings, and funerals.

No, and no. Cargo pants are more socially acceptable in normal society than "dapper".
[–] lord_nougat 0 points 3 points 3 points (+3|-0) ago
Pretty much.
I kept getting made fun of for wearing a suit and tie to work, like they figured I was always interviewing elsewhere or something.
So, fine, more casual it is, then! But I wore out all my cargo pants, and I don't want to resemble a terrorist, so at least I'll still wear decent slacks with my Hawaiian shirts.

very occasionally.
I have three outfits:
Every day wear - black t shirt, jeans/khaki, and shoes
Field work - Indiana jones hat, cargo vest, black t shirt, cargo pants, and boots
Presentation wear - I have enough suit pieces to put something together, but lately I've taken to wearing fishing shirts instead of dress shirt. It's comfortable as fuck and lots of people do it in my field.

I didn't know there was such a thing as fishing shirts and had to look it up. Are they common?
[–] oedipusaurus_rex 0 points 1 point 1 point (+1|-0) ago
Yeah, you usually find them at sporting goods stores like Bass pro shop or Academy. They are incredibly comfortable, and have lots of pockets. The only thing is you can't iron them.
