More kids are dressing up as superheroes than princesses for Halloween.

'So, as far as this Halloween survey is concerned, what looks like a shift in power from princesses to superheroes might just be a misleading organization of data. '

'According to a survey from the National Retail Federation, this Halloween, more kids will dress up as action stars and superheroes than princesses for the first time in 12 years. '

'But Halloween costume trends are just minor symptoms of broader changes in the cultures of princesses and superheroes, which are far more telling and influential. '

'If all the specific, branded superheroes were added into the general “action/superhero” pot, that category would expand by millions of kids. '

'In Frozen, there’s Olaf the snowman, and the only princess in the Star Wars franchise is Leia. '

Look at the movies that are coming out. Non-stop Marvel and the animated features that are releasing arent about princesses. No shit the kids are opting to dress up like the media they are seeing as opposed to the media they arent.

Because princesses are seen as feminine and Hollywood now demands masculine women.

Do they mean girls, or both genders? I'm pretty sure there's not a huge male population dressing up as a princess.

And even with the recent press, clowns still don't make the list.
