It's simulator sickness, a condition akin to sea sickness. Low frame rates, low fov, head bob, image distortions cause by their method of 3D projection, and the slight blur inherent to LCD monitors can all cause stress for your brain and optical nerves. Add aging, which can make our nervous system less flexible in dealing with such stress, and you have a surefire recipe for headaches, nausea, and disorientation.
It is frustrating because I really loved duke nukem 3D when it first came out. Now I can't even play it all that long because of it. Damn this aging body...
Most older games have notably more elaborate (or complicated) level design than modern titles, which more than often are just some interconnected corridors with cutscenes after every other step. I'll happily admit that this was exaggerated in some level designs (the Metropolitian Museum in Duke in DC was a pain in the ass to navigate through), but I kind of miss games that are not constantly handholding you.

Duke nukem gives me a head ache now. I don't know why but most old games do now.

No I don't care about that I like games like that, I was talk more about the graphics.
