When I went right by the train station earlier today, I did see an obese person, as well as a couple larger people (but more so "I eat a lot but I also do a lot of manual labour") Compare that to North America, where you usually see several obese people every minute... or more; but I never frequented Wal-Mart.
Most apartments here only have stairs. There's even a law that says owners don't need to install an elevator unless there's like 5 stories. The "first floor" in North America is considered the "main floor" here, so it's actually more like 6 stories... so it's kind of hard to be fat, or at least hard to stay that way.
