The first game that I ever remember playing was on a Commodore 64 my grandmother had after my dad splurged and bought an IBM 486. There was a Fireworks game on there (not really sure it was even a game, but I thought it was) and I played the hell out of it.

My first memories of significance were on the classic NES. I'd made it through the Marsh Cave and my neighbor couldn't get through it. I felt really cool. We'd also play Final Fantasy outside. I was Fighter, he was Black Belt, and we'd recruit my sisters to be White Mage and Black Mage since we thought they were both girls. We didn't make it far enough to get the rat tail to know better for quite a long time. Also right there in my memory is Zelda, Rygar, Contra, and some helicopter game I don't remember the name of. I didn't own Super Mario Bros until I was a teenager and going back to my NES.

Other stand outs were the N64 era with Golden Eye, Mario Kart, and Mario Party, Final Fantasy Tactics, EverQuest, and WoW. All of those have strong memories of specific things I did even though it's been years since I played even WoW which is the most recent.

It was either playing Harry Potter the video game (I think it was CoS) or Dogz 3, which was the most amazing game I ever saw as a little girl. I learned Photoshop because of that game, it was also the first game I modded.

Getting my ass handed to me by my two big brothers at Mario Kart on SNES.

Now I get my ass handed to me on Mario Kart Wii.

Not much has changed really.

I was probably 2 or just under. My older brother and eldest sister had pooled their allowance and bought an NES Action set. I remember watching them play Super Mario Bros., and I remember also trying to play it, as well as a toddler could. Later I remember seeing Super Mario Bros 3, then Mega Man 3. I think this was around 1990.

After we moved to a new state in 1991 the NES TV cable mysteriously "disappeared". I remember searching all over for it. I'm not sure what motivated me to look at moving boxes in my parents closet, but I did. I might have noticed my parents try to hide it wanting us to have a break from the system. My brother and sister were fine with its absence, but I was obsessed with finding it. In hind sight it might not have been the most healthiest thing for a four year old to put all his efforts in, then again I can also remember doing other things at that age so it might have just been a brief moment in time.

Later my dad who was heavily involved in the tech industry, bought a 486 PC, and I remember playing games like Spectre, Descent, and later Duke Nukem 3D (though I preferred to watch my brother play that one, the Pig Cops scared the shit out of me with their red eyes). I remember when we upgraded the 486 to 8 MB of RAM and how much faster everything was after. Later I remember when Apple gave my dad their latest PowerMac for him to write about, and me getting on the internet on dial up to find more games to download and try out.

Later my parent's must have relented on the NES because suddenly there was the TV cable. I remember my Mom showing it to me and asking me with a smile if I knew what it was. She pointed out the lettering on the plastic and spelled it out with me, "N-i-n-t-e-n-d-o!". I lit up with excitement, that was an awesome day!

This was longer than I expected, but thinking this question out really took me back. Those were much simpler times, it was so much easier to have something like a little gray box or a computer rock your world.
