If it's not personal experiential knowledge, then we only know what we've been told. Sure there are some gay mammals and the earth is most likely older than 6,000 years. But question everything, never assume forgone conclusions on hot topics just because the crowd believes it.
That's how witches get burned at the stake kindled with banned books.

No. It's not. Questioning religion is what got people burned, AND burned books.
Stop pretending that religion is questioning anything, it is not. It has a BOOK that tells it exactly what to think. That is NOT questioning, that is NOT reasoning.
You and I and ANYONE can reproduce the experiments that scientists use to PROVE what is true, that's why it's called RE-search, you do the experiment yourself to prove it comes out the same way every time.

i think he means that we're not here to be an echo chamber. This is a place for discussion. so having diverse viewpoints (as extreme or outlandish they can get) is actually a good thing since it gets us closer to the truth through meaningful debate

There's a diffrence between an echo chamber and everyone in the discussion accepting proven science.
There is NOT however a difference between an echo chamber and everyone in the discussion IGNORING proven science.
Debate will not change the value of g on Earth. Its value is 9.8 m/s2 on Earth, and no amount of discussion will change that.
Likewise no amount of discussion will make the earth 6000 years old.
