Because they want to get more people using Facebook, and at this point, that means improving Internet access in distant areas of the world via geostationary-orbit satellites (because creating and launching that satellite network is cheaper and safer than actually running fiber optic cables across the distant continents).

Funny, you see the rocket, all silent, birds chirping total Zen. The the bird gets a heart attack.

That last thing you would expect is that an upper stage blows up. It is not the first time that the upper stage blows up.
