Same thing. My wife is my rock but all my friends and family are pretty shit. We don't get along. We're not politically like minded. We don't share the same sense of humor or values. We share very few interests. We don't share the same work ethic. Everyone complains non stop. It's like a grab bag. Everyone's got like one quality I like. The rest is garbage.

It's impossible to find a an alt right nationalist, dick and fart joke loving, video game loving hiker, that enjoys hard manual labor and exercise, a good beer once in a while without being a constant drunk, and talking shit about about the constantly offended "too smart" and feminist types in real life, with a pretty loose grasp on Christian morals.

Did we just become best friends? I think we just became best friends!

Have you tried actively seeking out like-minded or otherwise likable people in your life? The people who just happen to be in your family, or at your workplace or school may not be your best matches - or is it something deeper where you think that you have a hatred for all people?

Like-minded and likable people are in short supply where I am. I'm fond of calling the town I live in "Detroit's little cousin with Down's Syndrome."

There absolutely are people I like being around, a few towns over. Does a fat lot of good, since I don't have a car. I'm intending to move there in the next month or so, if I can pin down a job near where I'd be living.

There is something deeper, though. I hate how people around me are. The best word I can think of is complacency. I want to be smarter, stronger, better, more patient today than I was yesterday, and more tomorrow than I am today. The one person I respect the most here has been doing the same job on the daily for the past 20 years.

I don't expect to find like-minded people anywhere. But if there are any here, I'm looking for a needle in a haystack.

Move out of the rust belt and into an area where continuous improvement is expected. It will be a good cultural shift for you.

I've never lived in a place where there are no professionals, entrepreneurs, etc. it must be difficult. Sounds like an "escape the ghetto" scenario. A month isn't much time, so what are your plans when you get to the other town?

I'm hoping to move a few towns over in the next month or so, if I can pin down a job that's walking distance from the potential living place.

If. It's always ifs. Goddamnit.

don't forget biking distance would work too :)

and a liquorcycle (50cc scooter) is great if you live in the city. usually doesn't require drivers license or insurance.

Well sometimes you are airdropped onto shit island, stranded.

Serious question. What set of unique qualities give you the ability to objectively judge your surroundings as shit island? I believe that the perception of our surroundings is a mirror of the inner workings of our minds. External reality is objective, but we only have the capability to exist in a subjective slice of reality at any given moment. Without going into a rant, I just want to say that if you view your island as a dump it will be a dump, but find beauty in the rubble and it can turn into a paradise.

Hey man, I was in the same boat. Frustrated with how no one seemed to live up to my ideals, not even family. Then I took a long hard look at my self and realized that I am the one that's flawed, especially when I let the flaws of others paint a skewed picture of the reality around me. Just remember we are all human beings, flawed just by the nature of our being.
