That sucks, bro. Fortunately, my gym, though lacking a sauna, has two benefits.
1. Private shower rooms. 2. Most fats quit my place after a few weeks, if that. But yeah, occasionally you get stank eye when they see you deadlifting what they weigh after they nearly die lifting what I weigh. Pure hilarity.

Our showers have dividers but no curtains. I'm only naked from the locker where I leave my sweaty shorts to the shower and in the shower. The rest of the time I'm decent for public beaches. I'd love a legit private shower room to shower and change in without having to carry or wear my sweat soaked gym gear, it'd go a long way to my zen not having to shower around old dudes lol But I've dealt with gang showers so even just the walls dividing them are nice lol

We get plenty of fat tourists. I tend to go the same time every day (save for off days), so I recognize the regulars and they're all cool, but occasionally some one new will turn up for a week or two then be gone again. Every now and then (maybe one every three months or so) a fat will turn up and not disappear after a week or two. They're usually the ones with better attitudes.

There's currently very few regular fats in my gym. More around new years, obviously. And like you, I am former military. Gang showers don't bug me at all. Privacy is still nice, though.

I never understood how bitter they are. There are some crazy strong, defined, greek-god looking motherfuckers at my gym. I look like a holocaust survivor. Do I get mad about it? No, because they worked for what they have and I haven't made it yet. Everybody starts somewhere... and at least I'm not fat :)

For sure and those dudes are typically motivating to me like shit, look what that mother fuckers achieved. I mean there's a few guys I'm moderately certain are on gear, but that's on them. I think fats are the most common people that will see someone who's achieved what they're working for and resent them for it.

I work out at a hardcore bodybuilding shitlord gym. You're allowed to workout shirtless if they think you're fit enough. Last year I was working out when a musclefat came in and took off his shirt. The owner said, 'Put your shirt on.' The musclefat said, 'Rawscent isn't wearing a shirt!' The owner said, 'Rawscent's an inspiration; you're an embarassment.' I love my gym.

That's pretty rad. There's no small gyms near me. The community center full of old people than little like fat gyms curves-esque shit for both genders.

if you're a fat at the gym trying to get fit/unfat why scowl at guys who are in better shape than you? I mean when I see like crazy jacked/cut dudes I think good for them and I'll get there or whatever motivation shit.

It's because fats are petty, jealous creatures who think that you're just born being shredded and fit. They don't realize the amount of work you have to put in to end up looking the way you do. Also, it's because you are (presumably) a mentally healthy individual and you are not threatened by guys at the gym who might look better than you. You see them as inspiration ("wow, if I work hard enough, I bet I can end up looking like him!") rather than competition.

There are two types of people in the world - those who see successful people and think "I could do that, I want to rise to that", and those who see successful people and think "fuck them" and try to sabotage. Keep being the former!

Maybe they're jealous/admiring your body? Why do you assume they're scoffing at you?

I've seen "mirin" and I get some of that, but what I'm talking about is people scowling. They may be jealous but they've got more of a snear on their face when I've noticed this than admiration.
