I bought Cities: Skyline a few months ago and am really enjoying it. I also bought SimCity when it came out and enjoyed it despite its frosty reception due to always-online and some limitations of the game.
Cities: Skyline just feels like a really complete game - even if theres still more content to come, its easy to pick up and build a fun city. Everything is pretty intuitive and you're able to make much bigger cities (you can buy additional plots). You can also do things like zone and have laws/regulations which actually have material impacts on your city.

Mods are available too, the plot limit is 12 but they're really huge. If that bothers you there's unlimited plot mod but that needs to be run on a proper gaming computer

Well I can't really speak on sim city, (maybe played 30 minutes of SC4) but there are many policies that can limit what your cities do (Like a smoking ban, making them put fire alarms in their houses etc), which effect their happiness.

I guess my question is can you just continue to build whatever you want and see the world go into chaos or are you limited like in Sim City to budgets/taxes, riots, ect? Love the concept of Sim City but would want something more sandbox.

This is a really interesting look at someone's attempt at conquering traffic in Cities: Skylines; your designs and placement of mass transit stations/stops really change a lot of things.

Depends on from what perspective you approach the traffic control question:
Do you mean how the game simulates traffic and how realistic it is, even in the end-game? From what I've seen, despite some minor bugs here and there, the traffic has been pretty awesome for me and instead of making it a huge hassle to deal with it, the game makes you solve little 'puzzles' and de-stress the vehicle situation without being too simple and boring nor too hard to make it a nuisance.
If you're wondering what tools the players have to handle the traffic: there are a handful of very great mods in the Steam workshop that give you even more features regarding the traffic that will help you to really micromanage it. You can edit the lanes (straight or turns), you can edit the phases and decide how long which lane has red or green or you can modify the lanes on your own for certain crossings, to better manage the specific traffic there and much, much more.
Despite one or two minor bugs (which are fixed with the addons, I think), the traffic has been a great addition to the whole package.

I have only played for a few hours myself but from what I've seen I think handling traffic is a good bunch easier than in Sim City. Since the days pass way faster you dont get rush hours which makes it much easier to plan ahead, but also takes away from the immersion.
I guess they both have their ups and downs.

I agree! I got up to a 100k population city, but I planned it very poorly so I called it quits. But I think I will start a new city soon after the new update with the tunnels.
But it is absolutely a lot of fun!! If there isn't a subverse already for CitySkylines then there should be.

I just bought it 2 days ago and I also have 4 hours in it. I have a town of about 6,000, but everybody was sick. I realized it was because I had the water intake downstream of the sewage output. Now everything is going smoothly except for trash pickup. I don't know why, but none of the trash is getting picked up.

LOL that happened to me too, all my people got sick, I just restarted because I could not fix it, damage was done by the time I figured it out. As for the trash you may want to put another facility down for now, and then at 6500 population you unlock a building which burns the trash (causes a lot of unhappiness around the area though, which sucks).

Do you have tutorials on? If not I highly recommend them, but basically for electricity you need either a coal power plant or wind turbine to start (I suggest wind turbine since it is clean energy and doesn't pollute) there are benefits to both and negatives to both, coal power plants cost more and pollute but wind turbines output a lot less power. So once you pick one place it down, Then put your roads down (I suggest putting the roads to the left and right, left for residents and right for the commercial district.) once you have your roads down you need to put down your power lines, power lines connect your power source to your citizens/town, place the first powerline near your power source and then go go around the roads (Not directly next to the roads you need space to build buildings) All buildings require electricity and water. Once that is done you need to get water, to do this you'll need a water pumping station (for clean water) and a water draining station (for dirty water) the draining station DOES POLLUTE, so you need to put the draining station far away from the pumping station, or make it so the current pushes the pollution away. once you put both down by the water, you need to connect them with pipes, put a pipe down ontop of both stations, and then connect them together, once they're connected via the pipes make it so the pipes are around the grid area beside your roads (this grid area is where your buildings/houses will go) once you have your pipes on all the grids, and you have your power lines around the grid (grid = the squares btw) you're ready to build your city, click the red/blue/green grid (to the right of the road button) and start one side of the road as the residential area, and use the other for the commercial area. After you've done this you should start working on an industrial area and just expanding your city. I highly suggest you put on the tutorials because they helped me immensely.

Cities Skylines is exactly the sort of game that is what people want but developers never make any more. It does everything you expect it to and then they give the community the power to push the game in whatever direction they want either through active engagement with the community or mods. Fantastic game. pics and this shows you the scale of the game too.

I believe the terraforming mod was used yes although I can't take credit for the city, mine are nowhere near that good.
