Why don't we make a day of it? Like on election day...we all jump ship for a new tech that doesn't take sides? Make that day the same day every year to promote new technologies emerging and preventing tech stagnation?

Let's all try to spread the word. This election day, we'll migrate to alternative social networks. We can also convince friends to join us while we wait for the day.

Having friends at all would also help.

The catch 22 of social network alternatives. It worked better for Voat because it's a news aggregation site, but social networks fail if it can't attract enough people.

It would be pretty sweet if we could use these alternatives and somehow they could post in FB/Twitter anonymously.

You don't need sites like facebook and twitter.
The shallow "relationships" that happen on facebook aren't positive for anyone and the real relationships happen regardless of facebook.
Twitter is clickbaity in nature, since it doesn't allow for enough text to describe something more complex than hype and outrage.

"Sea Lion Club" is actually part of the federation of GnuSocial sites, a decentralized implementation similar to E-Mail, XMPP or the mentioned Diaspora.

Other GNU-Social sites are for example loadaverage.org with mostly a technology orientation, quitter.<se|no|cat|es> obviously inspired by Twitter's name or rainbowdash.net if you're into My Little Pony.

This should be a rather exhaustive list of the most well-known ones: http://www.fediverse.org/

And now they're closing...but they leave a suggestion for gab.ai, but there's a waiting list to get in.
