Depends how much calories you want to add but making it into a smoothie, adding some vanilla ice cream or adding chocolate powder usually does the trick.

I'd recommend Greek yogurt over ice cream. Sugar really isn't meant for human consumption. Fruit has some sugar, but nothing like cane sugar or HFCS. Sugar short-circuits the bodies natural processes. Cocoa powder isn't a bad idea, with dark chocolate being better than milk chocolate.

Fruit and some yogurt are a better option.

Try mixing in fresh fruits. That may change the flavor profile.

Make it into a smoothie.

Like /u/nilceps said, depending on how many calories you need to/are trying to add to it depends on what you should add.

Some options for banana could include: avocados (adds a 'spicy' aftertaste)

berries - strawberries, blueberries, etc

oats

fruits - cherries, apples (iffy on this one), bananas, etc

vanilla/chocolate ice cream

almond/coconut milk instead of water (I'm lactose intolerant hence these instead of 2%/whole/skim milk)

" avocados (adds a 'spicy' aftertaste)" Yeah I don't know about that. Maybe your thinking of guacamole lol.

It's not spicey like chili or jalepeno spice, but it's the only way I would describe it.

Something like this here: http://omnivorescookbook.com/recipes/the-best-three-ingredient-avocado-smoothie

Almond or peanut butter would go good with 'banana'.

Sounds like you need to change your protein powder. Paying a little extra for something you don't have to choke down is worth it.
