Were there food shortages after the First World War? I'm just thinking this is the prevalent attitude even before the Depression era bread lines. Those that are still alive know hunger and a hard day's work, they would never be wasteful if they're lucky enough to have more than they need.

I'm a history geek and really, really sick of current politics. As one of my 'mental therapies' I like to search old newspapers for terms that are relevant today to see what they were saying long ago. I searched 'obese' last night and got this on one of the very first search results. I think there is a treasure trove of things I'm going to find if I do this again, which I suspect I will. I'll share.
