They should go if they have a good work/study ethic and their interests lead them to studies which require a lot of education. Simple as that.

Besides the article trying to sell me something at the end, the only real argument was that college is expensive.

Statistics show that college education greatly improves your chances of success in the workplace. [1] And if it is too expensive, there's no reason to take out 100k in debt when they could easily go to an in-state school that has costs subsidized by tax payers. This can dramatically decrease costs. Also if the parents combined income is below a threshold, some states will outright pay for the college education as long as the child is enrolled prior to their sophomore year of high school.
