I don't know why this is such a surprise. Females need to have a certain body fat percentage to begin puberty and female athletes in very strenuous sports often stop menstruating because their BF% is too low to support it. Even my mom, who is a shitlady but has totally swallowed the anti-GMO koolaid, thinks it's related to hormones in food and plastics and shit. I'm like "no, Mom, it's because people can't stop shoveling shit into their stupid fat faces."

At the beginning of the 20th century, the average American girl began menarche at 16-17. Now girls are starting at 12-13. This is not good, and a significant amount of blame is due to fatter children (AKA poor parenting). Source
