Yeah, it's ridiculous. And not just actors... musicians and sports figures also act like they are some kind of authority. NEWS FLASH: You're tall and you can put a ball into a hoop. That doesn't mean you understand foreign relations.
I remember several years ago when Honey Boo Boo said she wanted to vote for Obama and everyone on Kotaku was praising her like she was some brilliant little girl.

They pay a lot of money to be seen there. It's a networking event that tends to be mutually beneficial to both parties. In the e-mails from the DNC, there was a chart dictating how much it cost to sit close to President Obama. Not only that, but he worked directly with them and intimately knew his market value in that capacity. The closer you sit to Obama, the more you gotta pay.
Furthermore, the direct collusion of MSM producers and higher-ups with the DNC, and their close working relationship with Hillary throughout those same 20k e-mails showcases how intertwined those organizations and people really are. This begs the question of how much money is changing hands with whom when you see those celebrities, but I'd be hard pressed to believe that any of them that appear on the news/TV didn't explicitly desire to appear there. I'd be willing to bet that there are many celebrities who attend those types of events often that you never see.

It's to help get more votes from stupid and shallow people.
"Oh hey it's Snoop Dogg! I liked that one song Gin and Juice back in the early 90's I think I'll vote for Hilldawg now."

Our President and his wife routinely show up in TV shows and on daytime television.
Celebrity holds more sway over modem voters than any political platform ever could. And we're too stupid to be ashamed.

For the celebs: "See and be seen while supporting a good cause my people tell me is good."
For the pols: "Celebrity is popular, therefor so are we."

Idiots think that idiots are more likely to listen to something if some idiots who people know say it.
Sadly these idiots are kind of right and so the idiots lead the idiots.
