I like how people pick bits of the Constitution and use it to prove an argument (The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed) BUT leave out ("A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State)

as farmers, homesteaders and business man fightng for freedon of over-regulation from a government across the atlantic, do you thing the first thing they want is regulation by a new government. NO.

a well regulated militia at the time and still today refers to a group of civilians whom are armed, trained and supplied by their own intiative. it also means these individual citizens have educated and practiced enough to form a cohesive combat group if they see fit ( not if the government sees fit). The US military is a standing army which even the founding fathers were ardently against.
