Video is notoriously difficult to index and search. Bearing that in mind, will your project feature any kind of automatic transcription or will the search be limited to metadata and keywords?

Automatic transcription is possible. Sources like YouTube and C-SPAN have already do work on this, so much of it can be leveraged. For the rest, I think both automatic and manual transcription is necessary. We also need a transcription verification scheme so that manipulation cannot happen without being noticed.

I've worked in IT for decades as a developer, dba, systems administrator, ... I can tell you right now what you're proposing would be an incredibly monumental task.
I do support your effort however and hope you can pull it off. Be prepared to deal with legal battles even though fair use allows you to use content for critique the big players don't give a flying fuck about your rights and can afford to bankrupt you before you make so much as a blip on their bottom line. Perhaps putting it on an onion site would be the way to go.

In addition to fair use protection, there are also first amendment press and speech freedoms. I don't anticipate there being any big issues with copyright, but I think the argument for the database is simple to make.

What about ipfs for your data storage? http://ipfs.io

I have only recently searched it a bit. Is it in actual use currently? My initial understanding was that it would be something users could interact with in a web-native way, but when I look at the site now, it looks like you must install software to use it?

I like the idea, but I need to learn more about exactly how it works.

You need to install it to interact with files, but you can reference those files directly within a standard website. There is an image sharing site that provides a great use case... https://ipfs.pics/ You will want to understand the distinction between file permenance versus file persistence before using it for your datastore. You may still want to provide a server to provide persistence but the p2p/cdn like qualities of ipfs would dramatically reduce both the hardware and bandwidth demands of what you are describing. Your server would simply be guaranteeing that there is always at least one full copy of each video persisting within the network. I will leave it there for now but the possibilities blow my mind. So feel free to hit me with any other questions. I am just having fun playing with it.

Have you considered collaborating with archive.org? They might be able to provide some storage space.

Another person mentioned that as well. I have not contacted them yet, though. I will be looking in to it though.

Will we be able to sort them by biggest liar?

If we can score total un-true propositions vs total propositions, then yes :)

True, as in an actual recording as opposed to a fabricated one?

I don't think there is a complete answer to this question. We are already struggling with this today. Is what Hillary Clinton has been saying true? Is what Donald Trump has been saying true? No.

Can you scrape their campaign promises, and then have it be programatically compared to their voting. Then you can rank them on Rhetoric consistency?

I don't think it could be fully automated, but with every recording it wouldnt be hard to compile a list and to make easy reference of it. I think it is a good idea. I think there will be a lot to rank people on once we get the data out there and accessible to everyone.

A funny idea would be to have a questionnaire, have people rate their positions, More or Less beauracracy on Guns, specific angles on each.

When the user was done, you'd have a model that you compare to the current candidates and statistically show why they are most compatible.
