In most college campuses we see mandatory classes or lessons for only men about consent. This spreads the super toxic idea that being a man somehow makes you more of a rapist.its this sentiment and the whole titanic "women and children first" that tell men that their lives are inherently less valuable and that they are rapist. I dont know why you seem to think that these are okay messages to send to men. People should be rioting on the streets!

I think you are painting really broad strokes here. Are you saying the very idea of this sub is just for people to flaunt their mental illness? Why post here then? Why not use your time for something better? Or are you saying specifically the idea of privilege and oppression? If that, then why only apply it to this sub and men? Just curious where you're coming from.

OH okay I get what you're saying. I still think there's a line that is quite difficult to define and that is between 'perceived' and 'real'.

I agree. I feel like we're starting to see more and more of Red Pill attitudes and ideology creep in the MRM and it's a bit troubling.

Humans naturally love to gravitate toward absolutes...you're either a misogynist or a feminist. You're a democrat or a republican. You're a Christian or you're an atheist. You're oppressed or you're privileged. In reality, social issues are rarely ever absolute. The only things in this universe that are absolute is math and certain aspects of the sciences. Politics, philosophy, religion, social issues, government, etc. they're all varying different shades of gray.

So it's a little grating to explain to both feminists and other MRAs that, yes, I can browse places like /r/feMRAdebates attempting to reach a middle ground instead of perpetuating the Us vs. Them mentality. I can support GamerGate while also calling out any Red Pill bullshit that might be creeping in. I feel like no matter what, one side or the other considers me an extremist, simply because I don't fully fall in line with either side. It's the same for politics...I'm not a Democrat, Republican, or a Libertarian, yet there are aspects of all three of those parties that I like and agree with. There are also aspects of all three that I don't agree with.

The two concepts were inseparable

Are you kidding? Have you read The Red Pill handbook? It's completely antithetical to men's rights. It promotes backwards gender roles and is filled with blatant misandry and misogyny. I mean, I'm not making this up.

Women rely on men to be emotionally stoic, we often call this "holding frame" you have to be mentally strong so she can lean on you, she finds that attractive. You cannot lean on her, there is a double standard, if you lean on her the relationship will fall apart, she will not be able to handle your problems and she will no longer find you attractive. You are a man. You have to be better than her, which means to be stronger than she is. This is why women get to be emotional and we have to be non-reactive, we are strong and ignore our emotions so they can indulge in their emotions and enjoy the ride.

Seriously, anyone who knows even the slightest bit about the MRM will recognize that TRP ideals are in complete opposition to men's rights. TRP takes everything that mens rights has done to make society accepting of men's vulnerabilities and shit on it. It's rooted in a Victorian view on male and female gender roles and has not even the slightest resemblance to what the MRM's ideals are.

I particularly think using the term "oppression" with respect to either gender is laughable. That word refers to things like slavery and serfdom, it simply has no place in the west.

That said, privilege does exist and is worth discussing.

So many of the divisions that get set up district people from realizing that people have people problems, mostly because people are people and everyone should be treated to the same regardless.

I just wish all of this would go away. All the feminism, all the men's rights, all the "cool 21st century" activism to support whatever someone feels like supporting. I wish people would be... you know? Just people. Just humans. It's coming to the point where I can't even say a full sentence about something in front of strangers without triggering something in someone...

I know exactly what you mean. I'm incredibly invested in gender issues, but honestly if all of feminism and men's rights could be rendered moot overnight, I would rejoice. Why can't we all just treat each other like equals, not treat women like victims and men like tools. Can we not see misogyny everywhere somebody criticizes a woman? Can we all you know...actually just be equal to one another?

I've been saying for years that I wish we could all just play nice with each other. I don't understand why there always has to be the oppressor and the oppressed; it would be such a relief if we could just see people instead of man/woman, black/white, trans/cis, etc. etc. and so on.
