I'm one of those 1.3 mil. I'm playing on The Rebirth right now and loving it. To me, vanilla WoW is a masterpiece and my personal favorite game of all time.

I used to ponder where WOW went wrong, because it's success and slide into the long dark also meant the near death of the MMO...a game type I used to enjoy. My conclusion was that at some point blizzzard mistook: "Hey lets do a scholo run for the 1000's time to get some alts gear!" for "Wouldn't it be great if we had mindless repetitive tasks that feel like more work then cleaning a toilet in a frat house?"
The 'daily quests' hamster wheel of idiocy killed Wow. It brought the Korean style grind in place of actual content. Therefore people came to once again identify EQ1 style of play with the MMO market. Devs saw it as an easy out for actual content and then jump. Interestingly, it was Wow's original departure from "LF1M-Spectres, Need clarity!" that made it a huge success.
Now years later the market is still suffering. The open worlds and player driven mechanics promised by games like SGW and Landmark are gone. Replaced with linear face roll capable content targeted more for the COD player then the original mmo market.

since Starcraft 2 all I could think of when I hear "Blizzard" is just a big "Fuck you".
That was the last game I ever bought from them, fuck them. Clearly they dont give a shit anymore. Corrupted, soulless, heartless, spiritless fuckers. The lot of them.

O'boy, where to start...
It's basically a Warcraft 3 without heroes, and without fun.
Warcraft 3 was actually a really fun game, and I loved the story, you can tell they put a shit ton of effort into that game.
While I had played Warcraft 2 on fucking playstation I never really followed the story, so Warcraft 3 made a already cool game even cooler. Some complained the orc was getting "pussy-fied" and got "nicer" instead of being just evil, but I say fuck em, I liked it.
So in comparison to Starcraft 2...the story of the first Starcraft, I fucking loved it. It was the "holy shit this is intense as fuck". Everyone who was a fan of the story was fucking overhyped for a new Starcraft 2. And it sucked...it really sucked. It was so bad I just felt bad playing it. It's like, you want to puke...they turned an awesome story where the three races wanted nothing but fucking kill each other for various reasons, into a fucking love story...like...I can't explain how bad the story is. It's so bad that some people made their own stories and completely ignored that Starcraft 2 ever existed. It's just that bad...it's...bad...
So that's the story-line. Now, when you bought Starcraft 2 (god help you) and you open that cartridge you get a "Here's a guest key to invite your friends to play!". Already you can smell that corporate dick jamming up your asshole like fucking ebola. What a fucking disgrace, invite your friends? The sequel of the greatest RTS in history of video-gaming needs that shit? The RTS that is pretty much the founder of competitive gaming? THAT game needs a "guest key"??? I just felt fucked already...
So, I guess the important thing now: The game itself, gameplay....the purpose of games is surely to have fun? Why is it that the first thing that came to my mind when I started playing the first campaign mode...is I started thinking "where is my hero?". Because it felt exactly like Warcraft 3, there was no difference at all apart from no heroes. So, I'm playing a Warcraft 3 mod instead of the greatest RTS ever made? Well that kinda sucks.
For someone who loves RTS, if you haven't played Starcraft Broodwar, your just not an RTS player. Broodwar is the Mona Lisa of fucking RTS franchise, I play a shit ton of RTS because that is what I love, but frankly, there is nothing that compares to the art that was broodwar. Yes plenty of them are FUN but Broodwar was an ART, it pushes your fucking mind to the limit, just having skills with one single shuttle and a reaver could easily kill huge armies and turn the game around. It was insane how games could turn around from losing or gaining one simple unit. The balance of that game was ridicules, it felt once you built a few zeolots you could take out several armies. It empowered you. It's hard to explain really unless you played that game. The feelings you gained from beating an opponent was the greatest feeling of victory ever. And when you lose...probably a potential school massacre there...
I have full understanding why so many Koreans still play Broodwar, for me it's the greatest RTS of all times, easily. But, even back then, the graphics were outdated....and even thou graphics don't make the game...yeah I kinda want better graphics...it just feels way outdated now, it's like Red Alert 2, great game, but really outdated graphics.
So, for someone who played Starcraft Broodwar, Starcraft 2 is simply nothing like it. It's NOT an ART. It's a pile of shit calling itself Starcraft with fancy graphics but being nothing at all LIKE Starcraft.
Now, if you haven't played Broodwar I suppose anyone would kinda like Starcraft 2 for the game that it is. But that's where I think many would agree with this one point: The game is BORING!
After I played for a few days and finished the campaign mode, played a few solo games, ranked games, custom/arcade games or wtf they call it now....I just stopped.
You see, I sometimes play Diablo 2. I re-played Warcraft 3 a few years ago doing the campaign again...but Starcraft 2? I haven't touched this piece of shit ever since it came OUT! How long was that?? Alright I remember I did install it to try it out on my Linux machine, because I wanted to see if it works, and I played a few arcade games and solo vs comp or some shit like that, turned it off, uninstalled. Done.
Like, I have a legit copy of it, but I don't want to play it? I'm using Linux Mint for over a year, and Starcraft 2 works just fine on it, but the game is so bad I simply won't even bother installing it on a Linux machine. That's how bad it is.
Alright I got side-tracked....so gameplay...Warcraft 3 mod without heroes. Good or bad?
Well, the thing I DO or DID like about it are the sort of improvements they did what Broodwar was missing, things like controlling several structures with one group key, example: ctrl+1 can easily group 7 or 10 nexuses or CC's or hatcherys, this I felt was really missing in broodwar. Some say it made Broodwar more challenging that way but I dunno...
I also liked protoss having a specific key for gateway-transport shit, the W. I remember liking to mash units on the pylons.
I guess that's the positive things I can think of about this game. The negative things, the game sucks. I can't elaborate it further, it's like asking "what aspects of this indie-game didn't you like?" Well, it's just bland. Tasteless...empty...when you win it's just a "yay I won" kinda feeling. Or when you lose it's just "shit, got unlucky there".
Is this counter-strike or fucking Starcraft that's my question...the fuck is this...how do I explain what is wrong with a game that has nothing to do with Starcraft but calls itself Starcraft? It's army management deluxe, press the A button to engage, make sure you have the proper units to counter the other units! I can't explain it. It's just a bad game, it's not the worst game but it isn't even fun...I feel the same way about Starcraft 2 as Fallout 4, I SHOULD be liking these games because I liked the the games before that (loved and still love Skyrim), but they just fucking suck donkey ass dick balls.
The menu system sucks, even Broodwar has a better fucking menu where you actually have a SCROLLBAR! Fucking next-gen shit. And what the fuck is up with the mother fucking hydras soundeffects?!
I wanted to like Starcraft 2, I thought people were right when they said "you are just not used to the new stuff". No. I tried, I really fucking tried. Completing that campaign mode was fucking painful, hated the story, hated the gameplay...fuck it all.
One thing that bothered me the most, I felt constantly like wanting to play Warcraft 3, like, why am I playing this when there's Warcraft 3? WC3 is better, way more fun.
Alright my hour of text is done.
TL:DR:
The game sucks. Not the worst, just bad. Kinda improved things that broodwar needed, but in the end it's a game calling itself Starcraft while having nothing to do with Starcraft. It should be called, WC3 - No heroes - Starcraft Units - MOD.

They've been on a steady decline ever since they became ActivisionBlizzard back in '07. SC2 was also the last Blizzard game I bought. I'm not gonna buy Overwatch. Not just because it looks like a TF2 clone and that blizzard haven't been able to balance a game since SC1, but just cause of some the shit they pull. RIP Nost
