Not trying to knock your idea but from an engineering perspective it's easier to work it into the elevator's suspension system - since it is already supporting the entire weight of the elevator.
The floor thing would have to be capable of sustaining a lot of abuse. It would also have to be very thin, and even then would raise the floor up a few inches, which would cause problems for wheelchairs, etc. You'd have to recalibrate the stop point.
I'm not saying it's not viable. It is. But it's not the easiest way to solve the problem.

Yeah but I don't know how easy it is to mess with the suspension system.
