So on one side there are the people who want to simplify the bureaucratic nightmare by suggesting a common set of laws, procedures and a sharing of resources ( especially on the immigration side of things ) and on the other are the ones who want to keep their power.

I guess they should have marketed it as a way to save money and nobody would have said anything.
Anyway, it's a far cry from the "Superstate Vs Sovereignty" they suggest is happening.

There's no bureaucratic nightmare, there are various peoples with their own aspirations and cultures who want to govern their own affairs. Instead of surrendering all sovereignty to a bunch of daft plutocrats who have already demonstrated how unfit they are to rule.

So you're telling a set of rules that have been made to make sure all the rules of each member retain most if not all of their sovereignty isn't a bureaucratic nightmare?
Trying to make all of it fit together is literally a case of "square peg, round hole" there.
