How many obeasts truly live in real food deserts? <5%? It can't be that many. Good luck trying to explain to obeasts that it is actually cheaper to eat healthy foods, they love the healthy food is for rich people myth and will take that belief to the (early) grave.

The only time I was ever shamed when we were on food stamps was when I spent $20 on groceries, $4 being on 1 steak. That one on sale steak was used with the frozen broccoli and rice and fed 3 people for 2 meals. The rest of the groceries were staples, milk, eggs, potatoes, and some cheese slices for the kids sandwiches. But even seeing all that on the counter the cashier still said " wish I could afford to buy steak" when I pulled out my card. Because I had one $4 steak, that was on sale. Of course she didn't look like she had ever missed a meal. People are going to complain, criticize and make excuses no matter what.

Poors are seriously the most bitter about other people getting help. "If I can do it, they can do it." Only the weak need to control other people's economic security like that. I'm really just pissed that so-called intelligent social commentators believe this BS. If it's some intersection of condishuns, fucking say it. Don't say it's so common sense that produce is more expensive when it's not.
It's not. Prepackaged meals and meats are the most expensive. The only issue I had with fresh produce when I was on food stamps was shelf life. So unless I could cook it that week I didn't buy it, I bought frozen instead. Sweet potatoes last forever, as do carrots. Heads of romaine last way longer than the bagged stuff, and the bagged baby carrots are tasteless compared to real ones. Fats only want convenience, and can't fathom doing any work for themselves even if it's minimal compared to the alternative. The fat cashier that made a remark about my steak probably thought I was feeding my kids sandwiches while I had steak, I doubt she could comprehend that it was a part of a meal because chopping meat is work.

Fuck that. I live in an actual urban food desert and I still manage to live quite well on $20 a week in fresh fruit and vegetables, lean meat, frozen vegetables, milk, eggs, etc. All from my local Save a Lot which is basically 90% cheap processed crap. Without fail, on every shopping trip I see welfare hams loading up on shit like frozen pizzas and TV dinners. It's ridiculous.
And the "I don't have the time to cook" excuse is the stupidest shit ever. You don't have to make fancy-ass lemon infused teriyaki chicken souffle seasoned with the tears of Tibetan monks. Plain meat or eggs take like 10 minutes tops in a pan to cook evenly. Same with whole grain pasta. Fresh fruit and vegetables don't even need to be cooked. You can eat milk or yogurt right out of the container. There is literally no excuse to eat processed shit.
Yeah, like in my town we had a corner-store-type grocery and a meat locker. Everything was marked up equally, so there really was no incentive to buy junk. They seriously just don't have their shit together enough to work that 10 minutes cooking and cleaning up. What the fuck, all the families I knew that ate crappy like mine also used paper plates AT HOME and all kinds of convenience products but needed assistance to buy their kids paper and pencils for school. WHAT IS THIS DISEASE. THIS IS HOW STORIES LIKE THE COUCHWOMAN HAPPEN.

I lived out of town while working last summer. Instead of buying groceries for the family, it was just me. $65-70 per week bought three meals a day for 7 days. I bought: chicken thighs, pork spare ribs, sirloin and eggs for protein and onions, garlic, potato, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower, haricot vert, tomatoes, corn, chilies and banana. The expensive items were strawberries, apples, nectarines, herbs and whole wheat bread and chicken stock. Staples like rice, olive oil and flour weren't bought every week so the cost is spread out even more. I ate like a king and my house mate was spending ~$250 a week on take out and frozen shit.
Fuck these idiots
20 bucks at the farmer's market: One 10lb watermelon (have half to my SIL for 6 yellow squash) 5lb of peaches, 3 tomatoes, 1 huuuuge zucchini, 6 ears of corn, 20 small red potatoes, 3 yellow onions, Enough green beans for me, husband, and three toddlers to have them as a side for 2 meals. Please, tell me again how exspensive it is to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. Looks like they just want excuses to eat shitty food all the time.

My favorite was the fat on fattit who said it was expensive to find, "healthy, organic fresh food." Someone pointed out those were three different things and the fat absolutely could not comprehend it.
Fats don't know what's healthy, and they have no concept of real food prices because they never buy them.

I'm almost certain that when repubs talk about lazy people on welfare, they're calling out the hams who've disabled themselves, but too afraid to say it, since you pretty much need kids you can't take care of to get any other assistance (which come on they're innocent kids). And they do automatically qualify for SNAPS on top of it and fucking medicaid. While anyone working full-time hours min wage qualifies for 0 federal welfare programs when single, other than perhaps a few subsidized apartments. It's fucking absurd that they're "disabled," but homeless drug addicts are criminals who deserve their basic human rights taken away.

This hit me hard in the feels--like the stories on /r/troubledteens.

this is something I don't understand. My mom got about $5/600 a month in food stamps for herself and 3 kids. She always ran out and the house was stocked with crap food. She acted like we were so poor and hungry (with 3 out of 4 of us obese) I spend $250 a month for all of our needs(toilet paper, diapers, baby food etc) and food for us. And it's not all rice and beans either.
