It's amazing how thoroughly American politicians are ignoring the absolute proof that treating drug addiction as a public health problem instead of a criminal one results in better outcomes for everyone.
It's almost as if the ghosts of the puritans are still running the USA.
Because they legalized and regulated it, in 2014 Colorado has received more than 52m in direct marijuana taxes and fees with very few additional people using it and the only problem that cropped up being neighboring states whining about it being legal there.
And still, nimrods like B. Rauner in IL are against letting people pay taxes for what they already do, that (time has proven) laws will not stop. If making them criminals wont make them stop then at least regulate it like booze and collect a fair tax on it.
And for the inevitable cries of "what about the children" Liquor stores and legal post stores CHECK ID, I've never heard of a single pusher that checks ID and enforces a legal minimum age for buying drugs, have you?
