Seems like ink printers are safe? Or did I miss something?

It seems like many color printers are unsafe but black & white printers are safe, judging from all the links people shared.

Not all printers, but all color printers. Usually they encode in yellow and is only visible under black light or light boxes. The encoding is a proprietary language the Secret Service commissioned to prevent counterfeiting.

Not really related to printing I guess, but see what happens if you try scanning a $100 bill.

I'm not in America, what happens? Does your computer bluescreen and spontaneously combust?

Most will automatically make the page tinted red or at least my Brother MFC printer/scanner does. I haven't tried it on other brands.

Or even a $20, or a $50.

Purchase your printers second hand from offline sources. It won't solve the issue but it will minimize emphasis on the "owner" part of your question.

I think it only applies to inkjet printers (the watermarks are printed using yellow ink on white paper). But don't take that to the bank.

Does inkjet = color and laser = black & white?

There are also black and white inkjet printers.

No. We have color laser printers at work.

And all printers have memory, Watch what you print.

Not a serial number, but an encoded series of colored dots. It usually DOES contain a serial number but can also contain the time, date and size of the print job, which computer it came from (MAC address) and even the title. Thankfully its not every brand, or even all models sold by the brands. But it does appear to be the most common printers used by offices.

So I'm guessing black and white printers don't have this problem?

If you can find one its probably safe.

With my exceptionally bad luck with printers not working properly, I can't help but feel the secret i.d. number is flawed.
