Rape is actually another example of that trend, they take an issue which affects both men and women (actually more men in the US, but whatever), frame it as a women's only issue, then spend their time soaking up as much resources as possible to complain about it and actively block attempts to solve the problem.
They don't care about preventing FGM, they care about being part of a collective of victims and pissing on everyone else.

I don't think the common mentality of gross indifference will do them any good in this case. It's coming for them all eventually.
edit: by common gross indifference, I mean indifference to everything else other than the 'patriarchy', which they love to shit on. I think they might have placed themselves in a corner.

Because their actions show that they're not actually concerned about stopping genital mutilation so much as reinforcing the "women as victims of the patriarchy" trope.
