eh got bored of it real quick once i realized everything is locked by level, other than that pretty great atmosphere and world
Even if you manage to get awesome gear at a low level you cant use it because of a number, its just lazy and iam really tired of games having its gameplay revolve around arbitrary numbers instead of thinking up clever ways to balance things.
If LOTR was a game the events would of never happened, because bilbo would have been to much of a scrub to equip the ring
I'd say modern day games are less RPG because of the lazy approach to levelling. Fallout 4 you can become master of everything, skyrim too. It's just silly. Witcher 3 dances along that line finely as well but in my first play through I hadn't even unlocked a third of all abilities and you can never equip more than 9 anyway. There is purpose to starting over and trialling different play styles.
Coming from a pen and paper background there needs to be more depth in RPG's. I miss class systems.

Nothing is locked by level, it's locked by your skill. If you're level 1 you can go and fight a level 10, and assuming you can dodge / avoid most of their attacks, you can kill it without much difficulty at all. You can pick up quests with a recommended level of 40 at level 5, it's up to you whether you can complete them that early or not. You can go to the highest level region at level 5 too.
If you don't like items being level locked, there's a mod on Nexus to disable all item level requirements.
A level based / level restricted area system is pretty good in my opinion, far better than games like Skyrim where everything is just scaled proportionately to yourself, and therefor levels and progress doesn't matter because if you're 5 the boss is 7, but if you're 30 the boss is 33. What's the point leveling up if nothing changes? No new items? The same relative strength enemies?
The game is extremely good and I recommend you give it a second chance, you get large amounts of XP from the main storyline / main quest, play the game as if levels don't exist, do the main quest, then realize "oh, I'm level 20 now" and then go do whatever you want afterwards.
that mod sounds good, i may give it a try another time. Technically you could take on high level enemies, you just did no damage to them whilst they could kill you in one hit, and yeah i could dodge and all that but it just seemed tedious and ultimately unrewarding when i got locked items anyway
and skyrim, iam really getting tired of single player rpg games scaling to keep up the challenge, iam not going to play it forever and ive played this game enough already, had my challenge now make me a god, so obsessed with balance restrictions they forgot to make it fun

He meant the gear is level locked, which you covered - mods fix all problems :)
The level lock even caught out CDPR, the wolf armour (I think it was) levels changed between patches so they provided people with a potion of decreased level requirements to let them level for an hour while using higher leveled gear.
Still seems like a bit of a lazy way of extending gameplay though, in an otherwise fantastic game.
