Watch out for the group ganging up on one chick, if they see blood or exposed skin they can literally peck a fellow chick to death. If you handle them lots when they're young, they are less likely to be vicious when adults and the roosters are less likely to attack you.
Are you planning an open yard or an enclosed coop? They tend to stay put but you can also clip the big feathers on their wings to prevent them flying out. If you're building an enclosed coop, it might do to consider something heavier than chickenwire because raccoons and foxes can get through it.
It's not so much a problem if you have few birds and hand feed but rats will come to steal eggs and chicken feed. Mink and weasels and stoats can squeeze through small openings like rats to steal eggs or even kill chickens.

Have you bought chicks? The season is ending, they don't even have all of the breeds anymore.

I have a grain supply in town that has a couple types in stock. I'm just trying to get started with more homesteading projects. I'm already feeding the
birdssquirrels and two friendly ducks.[–] 5396748? 0 points 2 points 2 points (+2|-0) ago
Nice. How many are you planning on raising?
