And Orcas are by far not the only species to have culture. (Culture in the technical sense of the word, not the layman)

So rather than being forced to adapt to a new habitat due to outside influences (like the changed landscape after a natural disaster blocking them from their main hunting ground), the groups purposely chose to split off on their own and adapt as they went on through the generations.
