That's really not all that unusual in ancient culture religions. We hear about the big names, but the idea that every rock, tree, animal, and speck of dirt has a deity or spirit living in it was actually kind of common way back when. Even the idea that there were multiple pantheons who ruled over different places and competed with each other, even to the point of wars.

Most pantheon systems usually had a hierarchy system where the big gods ruled like kings over minor gods and spirits that controlled the minutia of making nature run as it should.

The idea of few or one God that handles everything is relatively new really.
