69% in favour of reversing their hitherto backwards policy on SSM represents such a positive and fundamental shift in Conservative Party ideology that I'm fighting the urge to sticky the article for a couple of weeks.

"I think our party got a little more Canadian today," Calgary MP Michelle Rempel said after the vote. "It's a milestone and it's not just a milestone for our party, it's a milestone for all Canadians."

Not to burst Rempel's bubble, but while it may be a milestone for the Conservative Party of Canada it should be remembered that the vast majority of Canadians achieved it more than a decade ago and it's simply taken her party that long to catch up to the rest of us.

That said, it does give us hope that if they can overcome that particular piece of [what many of us saw as religious and backwards] ideology and get back on the right side of history, just maybe they can evolve in a positive way on other significant issues.
